Life Jackets
Amendments to the BBAC standard Operations Manual now agreed with the CAA. Manuals have to be updated by the start of 1999. Please note that the CAA are proposing to issue a new (euro!) format in 1999 when CAP 611 is revised. The manual will be available on computer disk when agreed with BABO and the BBAC.

( Page Numbers may vary between ops manuals depending on type face used)14.5 Captains must ensure lifejackets are provided for each person on board when planning a flight that involves one of the following,
a) flying over water where it is reasonably possible that the balloon might be forced to land onto the water;
b) when taking off or landing at a site where the take off or approach path is so disposed over water that in the event of a mishap there would be a likelihood of ditching; or
c) when the wind is less than 5 kts onshore at take off from a site located within 1 nm of water measured at the ordinary high water mark.
Where required, passengers must be briefed on the correct use of life jackets including stowage, fitting and operation.
